The Challenge
When a building’s cooling system in the summer fails, a fast fix with emergency chiller hire is always a priority. When that 120m high building belongs to the United Nations where some of the world’s humanitarian issues are tackled, that priority becomes an emergency. ICS Cool Energy was the only temperature control solutions provider able to respond to the time and specialist solution challenges.
The Solution
Bonn in Germany is a United Nations city, hosting 18 UN organisations within a high security campus that includes the landmark ‘Tall Eugene’. It is Germany’s tallest steel frame building, providing 30 storeys of office space for over 600 people.
When the 120m tall building’s cooling system failed during the summer every minute counted with response times to fix the problem. The chiller hire solution needed to be available straightwaway, deliver the necessary power for the system and deliver the required pressure – more than double the amount that’s achievable with a standard chiller.
Thanks to ICS Cool Energy’s policy of having a broad depth of stock that’s always ready to go and a national network of engineers in the UK and Europe, Germany’s hire team was on site swiftly to survey the site and propose a rapid solution to restore comfort.
The Result
ICS Cool Energy was the only temperature controls specialist able to deliver emergency chiller hire and a fully working solution within the urgent timescales demanded by the UN’s site facilities team on the secure campus.
Due to its height, the building required a highly pressurised 12 bar system not achievable with standard chiller equipment that will offer up to 6 Bar. But thanks to a wide range of stock, it meant that, unlike other solutions providers, there was no delay in delivering a high performance 1000kW chiller, together with high pressure components including high pressure pumps and hoses that would achieve up to 16 Bar pressure.
So the combination of ICS Cool Energy’s team in different locations across each country together with nearly 30 years’ experience of making temperature control systems work at all times and the broad depth of stock means an industry-leading speed of response for emergencies.
”Across Europe our teams are used to responding to urgent situations and having equipment available for fast delivery. But where we’re different is that our depth of stock means we can be ready to fix the more unusual and demanding breakdowns as well .”
