In an uncertain market a major steel producer needed a robust and high power system to provide consistent cooling for its blast furnace \u2013 with a long term equipment hire solution from ICS Cool Energy providing the required consistency of powerful cooling and avoiding a long term capital expenditure commitment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Blast furnaces that heat iron and other metals require high efficiency cooling delivered through the re bricks below the furnace to preserve the framework of the furnace structure \u2013 and avoid the destruction of the bricks.<\/p>\n

At one important UK site, cooling towers had been used but were unable to provide the consistency needed to protect the lifespan of the furnace.<\/p>\n

Working closely with the site team, ICS Cool Energy designed a cooling solution that would not only provide the required robust cooling but also avoided the need to invest in permanent equipment or budget for system maintenance and servicing as that\u2019s included within hire contracts.<\/p>\n

Mechanical cooling was provided instead of cooling towers, with three powerful Chiller 1000 units and three additional Chiller 375 on a six months\u2019 initial basis.<\/p>\n

The ICS Cool Energy hire solution was installed for an initial period of six months during which the performance of the system and the condition of the furnace was closely monitored and inspected.<\/p>\n

Full inspection tests revealed that the new system was protecting the integrity of the furnace with efficient, economical and high power cooling and the hire period has been extended.<\/p>\n
