As part of the university\u2019s investment in the new ICT centre, with blade servers operating 24\/7, a high performance cooling system was required. It also had to offer the lowest possible carbon footprint with maximum energy efficiency and be quiet in operation.<\/p>\n<p>[show_gallery \/]<\/p>\n<h2>The Solution<\/h2>\n<p>Designed by leading temperature control specialists ICS Cool Energy in conjunction with Chartered building services consultancy Fowler Martin, the solution was based on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icscoolenergy.com\/ie\/sales\/free-cooling\/\">free cooling<\/a> technology that uses the \u2018free\u2019 ambient air temperatures to help chill the process water. And the unit was also fitted with a low sound package. The chiller itself is a high efficiency \u2018A\u2019 rated 400kW Aptus unit that was fitted with an integral free cooling coil, helping to minimise demands on space.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Solution<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"c-bullet-list\">\n<li>Variable flows to primary pumps for maximum system efficiency<\/li>\n<li>Free cooling unit placed in acoustic chamber<\/li>\n<li>Anticipated Investment payback \u2013 three years<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Product Selection<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"c-bullet-list\">\n<li>400kW high efficiency Aptus chiller<\/li>\n<li>Low sound package fitted<\/li>\n<li>Chiller fitted with integral free cooling coil, helping overcome space limitations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>The Result<\/h2>\n<p>With an anticipated energy savings of 70% and a system payback of three years, ICS Cool Energy\u2019s solutions offers high power with the lowest possible carbon footprint as well as low noise. It was a challenging brief, explained ICS Cool Energy. \u201cIt was a complicated project to deliver and we have a longstanding relationship with the facilities team who always demand integrated solutions that take into account the detail as well as the big picture.
