Here are a few of our employee success stories
Sarah joined the Hire Division, then called Cool Energy
Limited, in April 2008 in the capacity of Administrative
Assistant, reporting to the Admin Manager. Sarah’s primary
role was to schedule the workload of the field technicians,
raise purchase orders and maintain the contracts system. At
that time, the Hire Division employed four sales personnel
which kept Sarah busy.
In 2008, Sarah relocated to the Totton site undertaking the
same duties as the team developed and the business grew.
In 2009, Sarah took on the reins of Admin Manager and
appointed an internal candidate from the Telesales Team,
Rachael Shergold, to fill her role as Admin Assistant.
Sarah then became more involved in the warehouse
procedures and the despatch operations, managing all of
the administration aspects of the role. Sarah continued
to develop and grow her team with three additional team
members; these needed to be trained and developed in the
efficiencies required for a busy Hire Department and the
demands of a reactive business.
Since then, Sarah has seen an increase in the number of
Sales Engineers, Service Technicians and warehouse people
needed to support the integration of the Cool Energy
Company with ICS Cool Energy Limited. Sarah has continued
to introduce new systems and procedures working closely
with our European colleagues.
Sarah has risen to all the challenges throughout the
evolution of her role and puts this down to running a tight
team where they look out for each other and pull together
during the busy times.
Sarah has recently appointed her first Team Leader, an
internal appointment for Lisa Eagle, who has been with the
Company for seven years.
When asked about her success Sarah says:
“The Hire Division can be a tough environment especially
during busy periods. I have always gone the extra mile and
I always will. The growth of the Company is great for the
security of our people. I have been given the opportunity
to develop as an individual and have been rewarded for my
hard work and efforts”.
In February 2006, Chris joined ICS Cool Energy in the
capacity of Internal Sales Engineer. His duties at that time
were to support three sales engineers and one contracts
engineer, answer calls and deal with customer enquiries. He
also produced quotations and undertook system selections.
Chris continued in this role for about two and a half years.
Over time as the Company grew, his role increased to
support a team of six field-based sales engineers and one
In July 2008, following a restructure of the business, Chris
moved into a field-based role as Commercial Engineer for
our Service Division. In this role, Chris covered the North of
England and Scotland serving the customer base in the sales
of service contracts.
With the wealth of knowledge that Chris had developed
within the Service Division, he then transferred to an internal
position in November 2010, based at our Bradford office. In
this role, his responsibility was to manage a team of seven
service engineers and two admin staff for the Northern
region – a demanding job providing a 24/7 service in
meeting the needs of our customers.
By April 2014, Chris was ready for a new challenge and took
up his current role of Technical Sales Engineer serving our
current end-user customers and developing new business
for the Company.
Karen, Group Administration Manager for the UK, joined ICS
Cool Energy in 1993 as a Sales Co-Ordinator; at the time the
company had 6 employees in New Milton, Hampshire and 4
in Bradford, West Yorkshire.
Karen has always been involved in administration and
logistics in some way during her long service with us,
including the organisation of 4 office moves as the Company
1993 saw Karen, customer focused and building up an admin
team within the first 9 years of employment, by which time
Karen was ready for a new challenge. The Company gave
Karen the opportunity to progress into an external sales role;
Karen found herself out on the road, in her Company car,
bringing in business for Service Contracts. Karen did this
role for 3 years, travelling from Wales to Kent right across the
In 2005 the Company underwent a restructure and Karen
took on the role of Administration Manager coming back
into the office to primarily manage an admin team for the
Service Department. In 2007 the Company purchased
Tricool Engineering increasing the headcount and workload
which resulted in Karen being promoted to Group
Administration Manager and a relocation to the Totton office
for which Karen was heavily involved.
Karen currently heads up the sales administration team
including reception, logistics, stock control, commercial
vehicles and a host of ongoing projects as well as supporting
our Board of Directors in her capacity as PA.
When asking about her long service and what her thoughts
were on staying so long in one company, Karen’s response
“It’s the variety of the work and the great opportunities I’ve
been given to progress when I’ve been ready for a change”.
Ian joined what was at that time ICS Industrial Cooling
Systems 10 February 1997 as OEM Trade Sales Engineer. Ian’s responsibility was to develop the OEM and Trade sales for the Midlands area; serving existing customers and growing new business for the region.
As the Company grew so did Ian’s role, requiring him to work partly from the office whilst continuing the development of his field sales, which he did for the next three years. Ian’s success in growing the business resulted in the need for more sales personnel to cover the diversity of the type of sales we had developed. Ian chose to continue serving our OEM customers as this was a more technical role and gave Ian the ability to work with customers and engineers on design work.
In 2005, the Company underwent a merger which gave Ian
the opportunity to move to the position of Sales Manager,
taking responsibility for all sales aspects for the Midlands
Following a re-organisation in January 2015, Ian was
appointed UK OEM Sales Manager taking responsibility for
the OEM sales team Nationwide.
Ian’s view on his success:
“What makes it successful is working with the owners who
have themselves done the job and have the experience.
Being a privately owned company provides stability and
freedom for regional and national decisions, allowing you
to grow as a company but just as importantly as a person.”
Luis joined the Company in October 2004 working in the
production area on modifications of our equipment. Based
in New Milton, this gave him a great grass root introduction
into the cooling industry. In 2006, Luis embarked on a City &
Guilds qualification in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning at
Eastleigh College, during which time he continued to work
within the production area.
To support his C&G course, Luis moved to the position of
Service Engineer in 2007 within our Service Division. He
continued to develop his knowledge and technical ability in
this role over the next 1.5 years.
Luis then transferred to the Hire Division as a Service
Engineer where he developed his knowledge further in
a very different environment, learning about heaters and
boilers as well as increasing his cooling knowledge. As the
hire business grew and new people joined the Hire Service
team, Luis became a Senior Service Engineer in 2009.
In 2011, Luis decided it was time for a change and
successfully applied for a Sales Engineer role within the
Hire Division, where he has been very successful learning
an entirely new set of skills, which Luis continues to enjoy
