Under the energy performance of buildings directive, TM44, also known as an air conditioning energy assessment, is a legal requirement set out by the European Parliament on the 4th of January 2003.
The legislation states that any premises that utilise a combined total of 12kw of cooling or more now legally requires a mandatory inspection every five years. This sees all air conditioning and HVAC equipment subject to the inspection, with the penalties for not being able to produce a valid TM44 certificate on demand including fines of up to £300 per day.
The inspection is carried out to ensure that all cooling equipment operates in accordance with new energy regulations, something that not only aims to benefit the environment, but also ensures that the operational running costs of high demand, energy consuming equipment such as air conditioning is kept to a minimum.
We can support you with this requirement as part of our planned preventative maintenance contracts.
