When data centres face planned infrastructure upgrades or unexpected cooling failures, maintaining strict temperature control is critical.
Through rapid mobilisation and reliable portable equipment, ICS Cool Energy delivered contingency cooling to two separate mission-critical environments: a purpose-built data centre undergoing a three-week refurbishment, and a university server room affected by a sudden cooling system failure.
The Challenge
In mission-critical IT environments, any loss of cooling capacity can quickly become a serious operational risk.
In the first scenario, a purpose-built data centre was undergoing a major refurbishment programme in its main server room. To enable pipework modifications for new permanent units without disrupting operations, the facility required a reliable temporary cooling solution for a three-week period.
In the second, unplanned scenario, a university’s sixth-floor data centre experienced a sudden and complete failure of its permanent cooling system. Immediate action was needed to prevent server temperatures from rising, requiring a rapid-response solution to protect critical systems and avoid potential loss of valuable research data.
The Solution
ICS Cool Energy supplied portable cooling equipment tailored to the specific requirements of each site.
For the three-week refurbishment project, ICS supplied six compact 7.3kW units. These portable systems delivered precise backup cooling for high-density IT loads while the permanent infrastructure was upgraded.
For the university emergency, speed was critical. ICS Cool Energy mobilised immediately, delivering and installing eleven units in the sixth-floor server room just three hours after the initial call.
The Result
In both cases, the temporary cooling solution helped maintain suitable environmental conditions and protect critical IT operations.
For the refurbishment project, the temporary installation enabled upgrade works to proceed while maintaining continuity in the live server environment. For the university site, the rapid deployment helped stabilise conditions quickly following the cooling system failure, reducing operational risk at a critical moment.
Access to dependable temporary cooling solutions that can be delivered quickly, operate reliably and support continuity, is essential in high-dependency environments. As the OEM of its hire fleet, ICS Cool Energy combines temporary equipment with application expertise and responsive local service support.
Backed by a nationwide network of qualified technicians and one of the industry’s largest service networks, ICS can respond rapidly to urgent requirements and help keep critical operations moving forward.
