The Challenge
The cooling system at a London gym – part of a major national group – was failing, leaving customers and management ‘hot under the collar’. ICS Cool Energy was called in to provide an upgrade and an environmentally-friendly solution. And that needed to happen in double quick time with minimal site and business disruption.
The Solution
ICS Cool Energy had to deliver a total turnkey solution to keep gym users and the site’s management happy. Time and space were tight and the new solution needed to be low energy.
An Aptus Chiller was selected with integral heat recovery which allows for the collection and re-use of heat energy (usually wasted) which is collected and re-used by the site’s swimming pool.
ICS Cool Energy’s Project Manager Allan Towns and Sales Director Richard Metcalfe planned the meticulous operation which included securing access from the neighbouring military site so the new chiller could be craned in and the old unit removed.

The Result
With the reduction in energy usage and championing of ‘best practice’, ICS Cool Energy’s solution provided the heathclub facility with a sustainable solution that not only improved the building’s HVAC system but also its green credentials.
Similar projects are subsequently being rolled out across the leisure provider’s estate of over 100 facilities, with other projects taking place daily for all types of buildings in UK cities and rural locations.
